Design features of Continental Industrie Blowers

In various blower models, the inlet and outlet heads as well as the intermediate partitions can be made of cast iron or aluminum. Depending on the desired pressure, the blower can consist of up to 10 stages of delivery. The heads and intermediate sections are fastened together using steel tie rods. The inlet and outlet connections are usually mounted vertically, but if necessary, they can also be directed horizontally. The tightness between the elements is ensured by the use of special seals.

Each rotor is cast from an aluminum alloy and statically balanced after machining. Depending on the requirements, its design can be either radial or curved. The finished rotor is then mounted on a carbon steel shaft. After assembly, the complete rotor assembly is dynamically balanced to ensure a minimum vibration amplitude of 30 MIC.

The bearings are mounted in independent cast iron housings. These housings are bolted to the inlet and outlet heads and allow easy access for maintenance. The housing is sealed by a graphite clamp or, in the case of larger machines, by carbon fibre rings, which are connected to each other by stainless steel springs, which reduces the risk of leaks to a minimum. In the case of aggressive gases, a double mechanical seal is used. The bearings are normally lubricated with special machine grease or oil.
