Hydrograv inlet regulators are an ingenious technical solution that improves the performance of secondary clarifiers. They operate by dynamically adjusting the geometry of the wastewater inflow based on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) models. Implementing these regulators enables wastewater treatment plants to operate effectively even at higher flow rates and with higher sludge indices and concentrations. Additional benefits include superior effluent quality (with an average suspended solids level of approx. 5 mg/l) and reductions in both phosphorus levels and electricity consumption. While this solution is widely used in Western Europe, in Poland, the technology is currently being implemented at facilities such as the wastewater treatment plants in Wrocław and Rzeszów.
